SEOUL, April 22 (Yonhap) - Preorders for Samsung Electronics Co.'s Gear 360 sold out around five minutes after they began in South Korea, the company said Friday, reflecting the market's high interest in the company's first virtual-reality camera that links to smartphones.

The South Korean company said 360 units of the Gear 360 available for preorder were sold out only a few minutes after it kicked off at 10:25 a.m. While the sales were originally planned to begin at 10:00 a.m., the delay came as an influx of customers disabled the website.

The round Gear 360 allows users to take videos through two lenses that cover 180 degrees each. The device is capable of taking 30-megapixel photos, as well as Ultra HD videos.

Photos taken via the Gear 360 can be shared using Google Inc.'s Street View and other social network services through an application. It links to not only the Galaxy S7 series, but the previously released Galaxy S6, as well.

The official sales will begin in South Korea on April 29. The factory price of the device stands at 399,300 won (US$350).
